Hei! My name is Phil, I’m a 32-year old author, stand-up comic, and social media geek from the states.
I lived in Finland and worked at Nokia’s global headquarters for nine years, but now reside in San Francisco, California and work as Head of Owned and Socia Media for North America at Nokia’s Silicon Valley headquarters in Sunnyvale.
My new book, “How to Marry a Finnish Girl“, is out on Gummerus Publishers (October 2011).
I began working for Nokia in 2003 with the Nokia.com team, then as an Online Marketing Specialist for S60 in 2006, later as a Digital Marketing Manager for Games and Services in 2008, then as Editor-in-Chief of Nokia’s official blog, Nokia Conversations, in 2009 with the Communications organization.
When I’m not geeking out to mobile phones and social media trends, I moonlight as a stand-up comic around San Francisco while having performed in New York, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, and Estonia. I love to test out new jokes on Twitter. In 2004, I began the popular blog “Finland for Thought“. I used to produce comedy shows around Finland, and co-host a podcast about Nokia. And now that my book is out I’m busy working on my next writing project
I’ve been together with my girl, Anja, an architect from Finland, for eleven years. We got married in October of 2011 in Helsinki. I <3 her very much.
If I'm not working or writing you'll find me reading a Philip K. Dick novel, throwing a frisbee to Oggie my 10-year old Sheltie, catching up with all my favorite podcasts, enjoying live comedy with Anja, watching a highly-iMDB-rated film, laughing at something on Comedy Central, listening to Depeche Mode on my headphones at the gym, fiddling with Nokia's latest phones, keeping up with the latest social media news, shooting photos on my Nikon D90, playing a German board game, trying to decide if I should vote Democrat or Libertarian, perusing through GQ, shopping at Express, cheering on the Baltimore Ravens, sipping on a new pale ale, dancing to house music as I cook, and feeling guilty for not writing more often.
Some of my favorite comics include Todd Barry, Maria Bamford, Zach Galifianakis, Patton Oswalt, Brian Regan, Anthony Jeselnik, Patrice O’Neal, Marc Maron, Doug Stanhope, and David Cross.
