Beer & Jokes: Helsinki’s English Open Mic at Molly Malone’s

Helsinki’s first and only English-language stand-up comedy open mic! It’s FREE and happens every other Tuesday at Molly Malone’s (2nd floor) from 8pm-10pm. Hosted by Louis Zezeran and Phil Schwarzmann.
Grab a beer and watch comedians test new jokes, work out new material, and experiment with new styles. You’ll see up-and-coming comics, professional Finnish comics trying out English, first-timers, and hopefully some crazy people. It’s a fun, laid-back, creative, and supportive atmosphere.

Wouter Meijs is a UK based Dutch comic who started doing comedy in Amsterdam in 2005. Since then this former physics student has been cycling and performing through Europe. There’s a unique effect on his audiences, it often starts with surprise and turns from a mutual misunderstanding into an always hilarious set of short stories and oneliners. He’s quite tall, his name is pronounced Wow-ter Mais and he often has trouble convincing people that he’s not a character act but a genuine Dutchman with very funny bones.

HEADLINER: Martin Lagos (SWE/Chile)
Martin Lagos is a quick-witted, fearless and charming comedy. With a father from Chile and a mother from Sweden, Martin Lagos is bilingual and can speak English, Spanish and Stockholmian. He jokes about everything and everyone but the best he jokes about himself. A great social observer who uses his multicultural upbringing to bring a unique perspective to the world… in an absolutely hilarious way.
Martin has appeared at Norra Brunn and Sthlm Live, the biggest stand up clubs in Sweden and has appeared on TV in “Comedy Fight Club”. In spring 2010, he went on tour with the international award-winning comedian Al Pitcher.

Zoë Chandler left the rain and warm beer of England in pursuit of her dreams… but soon gave up and settled in Finland. Her mixture of sharp observations and absurd notions brings out the unseen paradoxes of everyday life. Zoë finds that wearing three belts makes her look at least ten years younger.

She is very afraid of children, elderly women and mascot cats. He looks Russian, sounds American, he just got out of the Finnish army, and according to Wikipedia ‘Nikolay Antonov’ is a “Retired Bulgarian Athlete who won the 200m sprint in 1991″ – but according to us he’s a really funny Ruskie.
